News: New excess page fee calculation effective for all papers submitted or in revision as of 2 December 2013
AGU excess page fees will now be easier to calculate for authors. The new fee structure is on par with the current one, but will now be accurate and simpler to calculate. Excess length fees are in addition to the standard journal fee.
This new, straightforward approach is based on the number of words in the abstract, text, and captions only (excluding titles, author lists and affiliations, tables, and references), and number of display items (figures and tables) and is as follows:
Total publishing units = # of words/500 + # of figures + # of tables
Standard research articles with 25 publishing units or less will not be charged any excess length fees.
For example, if you have a 10,000-word article (excluding title, acknowledgments, author and affiliation information, and references), 3 figures and 2 tables, you have 25 publishing units.
Individual tables and figures are limited to one full page in the article. Larger tables should be put in Excel or csv files in the supporting information.
The full fee table is located here.
